What is Divorce Recovery Counseling?
Recovering from a divorce has been said to be one of the most difficult times in a person's life. Dealing with the loss of a marriage, a mate, family, and a lifestyle (as you have known it), causes many individuals to feel depressed, overwhelmed, and lonely. People are dealing not only the legal processes, but also feelings of disconnection, betrayal, and/or grief (regardless of whether you wanted or didn't want the divorce).
The divorce process can be emotionally traumatic and can stir up old feelings or trigger new pain never felt before. Divorce Counseling provides an opportunity to address specific issues that stand in the way of obtaining a conflict free divorce and your emotional freedom to move forward in your life.
What types of topics are discussed Divorce Recovery Therapy?
• Dealing with major changes in lifestyle as the result of divorce
• Handling the legal aspects of the divorce process
• Having control over negative feelings and emotions
• Addressing the difficulties of families and children
• Talking to your child about divorce (what to say and not to say)
• Noticing and responding to your child's needs
• Understanding your needs and learning coping skills
• Learning effective communication skills in dealing with difficult issues
• Managing emotions when dealing with future dating (whether yours or your ex-partner)
When individuals can learn to manage the hurt and pain caused by the divorce process, they feel better and gain control of their life again. In this safe empathetic one on one therapeutic relationship, a person begins to heal the wounds and start to hope towards a new life. My approach is about grieving the losses while learning self control, communication and empowerment skills. Divorce can be traumatic, but it can also be a time of growth and change. Many clients have reported experiencing feelings they have not felt in a long time.
